WHO WE ARE

BIOGRAPHY

Rabbi Greg Hershberg

“I’m a nobody, telling everybody, about a somebody, who can change anybody. This is your destiny, your purpose, your reason for living. Once you know Who you belong to, then and only then will you know who you are.”

Getzel.org (Getzel), is a teaching ministry. We share the unadulterated, unpolluted word of God. What you see is what you get.  No masks, no facades, no pretense – just the word of God.

After being forewarned by God of his impending death, Moses unselfishly thought of a successor for the people so that the Lord’s community would not be like sheep without a shepherd. (Num. 27:12-17 Complete Jewish Bible) This was written over 3,000 years ago and it is still relevant to the Body of Believers today.

In fact, Yeshua (Jesus), aware of his own imminent departure from this earth, felt the same care and concern for God’s people penetrate his own heart. “When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them because they were harried and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matt. 9:36)

Like sheep, the people were wandering around without a spiritual guide – hungry, harassed, and helpless. And like a good Shepherd, Yeshua extended the care and responsibility of his earthly ministry to his disciples. At the end of John’s gospel, Yeshua restores and reinstates Peter to his original calling as a teacher. Yeshua asks him three times, “Do you love me?” Three times Peter answers, “Yes Lord. You know I’m your friend.” And Yeshua says, “Then feed my sheep.” In other words, “teach them my ways, Peter.”  The tasks of a Near East shepherd were to watch and protect the sheep from enemy attacks, heal the wounded and sick sheep, and to search for sheep who had become lost or trapped. At Getzel, we believe that today many are under attack, wounded in battle, and even trapped by society and circumstances beyond their control. There is no better way to free the sheep than through solid Biblical teaching!

At the end of Matthew’s Gospel, Yeshua gives His Body some final instructions, commonly known as the Great Commission. Getzel’s purpose and mission is to fulfill Yeshua’s Great Commission and thereby make disciples!
